Plot

The movie narrates the story of how Facebook was founded. It´s based on the novel, The “Accidental Billionaires” written by Ben Mezrich.

On the fall of 2003, after a painful breakup with his girlfriend, Mark Zuckerberg, a Howard undergrad and computer programmer genius, made a site called “FaceSmash”, where students of the Howard University could rank girls from the different Houses. After some hours, the University server crashed, due to the massive traffic. As a result, Mark was put to a six-month academic probation for hacking and stealing face images of students.

Mark achievement draws the attention of Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, members of Howard and their business partner Divya Narendra. They contacted Mark and explain to him their new idea for a website called “Howard Connection”. Mark agrees to help them to develop the site. At the same point Mark approaches Eduardo Saverin, his best friend, with a new idea called “Thefacebook”, where you could share personal and social information with Howard students.

The Winklevoss and Narendra found out that “thefacebook” was a big success among students and they thought Mark had stolen their idea, so they planned to sue him for intellectual property theft but Cameron convinced them to settle this as Howard gentlemen should. What started as a furious blogging and programming, become a social Network that gained popularity among university students and soon expanded to other universities. The introduction of a new investor to the site will generate the break up between Mark and Eduardo. At the same time, the Winklevoss brothers will finally sue Mark for intellectual copyrights.

Review (Warning it may contain spoilers)

The social network has a very catchy plot, the foundation of Facebook, with more than 500 million members on the site is expected to be an economically success.

The plot of the movie is presented in a very interesting way, as the story progresses the movie cuts to scenes where Mark is being sued by Eduardo and the Winklevoss brothers. This mix between scenes keeps you interested in the plot.

Upon seen the film you can´t elude having an opinion on Mark Zuckerberg. Jess Eisenberg manages to portrait to perfection this very cold-blooded arrogant person. However, at the same time, you can’t decide if what Mark did was because he is a bad person or it was just a legal move. I find Zuckerberg´s personality disgusting. What I hate most is his arrogance and his lack of fillings towards others. Despite all the good things I can´t imagine this movie winning the Oscar for Best Picture.
